Letter Detective

Letter Detective is a word-guessing game. Find the hidden five-letter word in six tries. It runs in your browser on a phone or a PC, with nothing to download.

Type any five-letter word, using the on-screen keys or your keyboard, and press Enter. Each tile then tells you how close you were. A solid dot means the letter is right and in the right spot. A ring means the letter is in the word but in a different spot. No mark means it is not in the word. Marks use shapes as well as colours, so they are easy to read.

There are two modes. Daily gives you one word per day, the same word for everyone, and shows a countdown to the next one. Practice lets you play as many words as you like, keeps a streak, and lets you skip a word. Win a game to earn coins, with more for solving it in fewer guesses. You get one optional hint per word that reveals a letter. Your daily progress, practice record and stats are saved on your device.

Tips: begin with a word that has several common vowels and consonants, then use your next guess to test new letters rather than repeating ones you already know are wrong.
