Paintfire

Paintfire is a free online first-person paintball game. There is no blood and nobody gets hurt: you fight with bright toy paint guns, and a hit player simply goes splat in a burst of paint. Every match is a run of short rounds against bots, and the first side to win five rounds takes it. Every paintball leaves a mark on the walls and the floor until the match ends, so each arena ends up covered in a colourful mess.

You start with the Speedball Gun, which fires fast and is easy to aim. Win matches to open the Scope Gun, with a light scope and quick steady shots, then the Sniper Gun, with a big scope and one huge shot, and the Bomb Launcher, which throws a slow paint bomb over walls that bursts where it lands. You also carry a small backup called the Paint Pistol. Paintballs drop a little as they fly, so aim higher at long range. A shot to the head does more damage.

Every field is laid out with soft inflatable bunkers to hide behind, just like a real paintball field. Toy Yard is small and simple, so it is a good place to learn. Bounce Roofs adds bounce pads that throw you up on to the rooftops. Paint Park has a high deck in the middle, and Moon Base is in low gravity, where every jump goes much higher. Paint Alley is all tight lanes and close fights, and Snow Line is one long lane that snipers love, with routes hidden down the sides. Pick from six characters before each match, and the same characters play on both sides. Pick your team size too: one on one, two on two, three on three or five on five, with bots on your side and theirs. The bots get sharper as you win and ease off if you are struggling.

On a computer, move with W, A, S and D, aim with the mouse, click to fire, press Space to jump and E to use a scope. On a phone or tablet, turn it sideways, then use your left thumb to move and your right thumb to aim. The buttons sit where shooter players expect them, and you can drag them anywhere and resize them in Settings. Your gun fires by itself when an enemy is in your sights, and you can turn that off too. Your kills, deaths and assists show on the scoreboard, and when you are out you can watch your teammates until the next round. It plays right in your browser with no download.
